Awards and Honors Presented to Alumni, Friends, and Supporters of Truman State University

The curiosity that fuels our students’ intellectual pursuits can also be seen in the lives of our alumni as well as friends and supporters who value Truman’s tradition of excellence. Like our students, they want to make a difference in the world and do so by striving for the best — in their careers and activities and through their support of the university.  To highlight the achievements that bring honor to the University, Truman presents several awards, honors, and recognitions.

Golden Alumni Celebration
This special two-day celebration held in the fall during Homecoming has become a favorite campus tradition honoring alumni who graduated 50 years ago. The festivities include a Golden Alumni Class Reunion as well as a chance to relive graduation day by donning a cap and gown for the Golden Alumni Diploma Ceremony that takes place during the Homecoming Celebration Banquet.

President’s Leadership Award
This prestigious award honors Truman’s most ardent supporters who show an exceptional commitment to the University through gifts of volunteerism, expertise and financial resources.

Alumni of the Year
Our alumni have impressive resumes, and we like to shine a light on high-achieving individuals—especially when their life’s work represents intellectual integrity, informed ethical values, a focus on public service, and demonstrated leadership

Distinguished Service Award
When alumni and other supporters of the University champion Truman’s mission through outstanding volunteer and philanthropic service, this award is one of the ways the University recognizes their generous commitment to the university and its students.

Young Alumni of the Year
With the high caliber of our students, it’s no surprise that our graduates are well on their way to leading meaningful lives of influence by the time they turn 40—this award recognizes young alumni leaders who are already leaving their mark on the world.

Bulldog Forever Volunteer of the Year
Members of Truman’s alumni chapters and clubs devote time and effort planning events, serving in leadership roles, supporting current students, and coming up with fun and innovative ways to bring alumni  together. This award singles out a volunteer leader who has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Alumni Chapter of the Year
Truman’s alumni chapters show their competitive spirit when they vie for this award which recognizes a chapter’s success in building alumni engagement. Chapters can gain an edge by hosting regional events, recruiting new members, organizing volunteer or philanthropic opportunities in the chapter region, developing ways to support current Truman students, and creating communications for alumni and other members of the Truman family who live in the chapter area.

Homecoming Parade Grand Marshals
With this lofty title and a special seat up front, the grand marshals help celebrate the tradition of Homecoming by leading the parade down Franklin Street.

Donor Recognition
Truman’s giving clubs celebrate and honor our most loyal and generous supporters who invest in Truman State University.

Distinguished Corporation/Foundation Award
With Truman’s reputation for producing graduates who are well-prepared to enter the working world,  corporations,  businesses, foundations, and organizations have discovered that investing in Truman means they are investing in their future. That’s why they like to partner with the University by sponsoring events and programs, providing internship opportunities, hiring Truman graduates, and contributing financial resources to ensure the future of the University.  This award recognizes the importance of these mutually beneficial partnerships.

The atmosphere at Truman is warm. People here are friendly and are willing to help you whenever you need it. Also, there are plenty of organizations available to help international students to make new friends, understand new cultures, and enjoy life in America.
