The Ruth W. Towne Museum and Visitors Center is where you can find our Admission Office. You can also explore the museum to learn more about the region and Truman State University.
Baldwin Hall
Baldwin Hall is one of the major academic buildings on campus. The first floor is home to the Center for International Students, the Center for International Education Abroad, and the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. Along with offices for faculty members and graduate teaching/research assistants, the building houses classrooms, collaborative study rooms, and foreign language computer labs and tutor rooms. Additional functional spaces include music practice rooms, interfaith prayer spaces, and conference/meeting rooms, as well as informal lounges and study spaces on each floor.
Barnett Hall
Barnett Hall is the hub for all student media, including radio and television studios and our magazine and newspaper production space. It is also home to the University’s Publications Office and several academic programs: Communication, Justice Systems, Psychology, Military Science/ROTC, and Sociology-Anthropology.
Bookstore
Located on the lower level of the Student Union Building, the University Bookstore has a selection of textbooks, general books, computers, course materials, and supplies. You can also stock up on your Truman gear including T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, gifts and more.
Health Sciences Building
Our Health Sciences Building is connected to the Pershing Building and gives Athletic Training, Nursing, Communication Disorders, Health Science and Exercise Science students the opportunity to put theory into practice with the best hands-on learning available. Our Speech and Hearing Clinic serves clients from all over northeast Missouri, and we have state-of-the-art labs for health and exercise sciences research. The Nursing Simulation Center is designed to run just like an actual hospital providing a place where nursing students can practice their skills on life-like “manikins.”
Kirk Building
Currently undergoing renovation, this building will house a new Student Success Center comprised of the Career Center, Tutoring Services, Student Health Center, Counseling Services, Student Access and Disability Services, Center for Academic Excellence, Communication Lab, and Writing Center. The updated facility will also provide resources to the community, including workforce development outreach, rural telehealth counseling and academic outreach workshops. The Sustained Knowledge of Integrated Lifelong Learning Skills (SKILLS) Center will build upon the services of the departments in the Student Success Center, making key services available to the local community.
Kirk Memorial
Kirk Memorial is a well-known campus landmark. A statue of University Founder Joseph Baldwin faces the entrance to the building, and the Sunken Garden is located behind the building. The large dome is topped by a cupola with a weathervane that was welded in place to forever point northeast as a tribute to the former names of the University, including Northeast Missouri State University.
Magruder Hall
The primary center for the study of science is Magruder Hall, which is home to the School of Science and Mathematics. This modern science facility has classrooms, research labs and prep rooms, a greenhouse, a solar garden, and a planetarium. You can also drop by the Herpetology Lab. You can take part in research in this vibrant learning facility. Magruder Hall is home to programs including Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
McClain Hall
Many administrative offices, such as Financial Aid, Registrar’s Office, and Business Office, are located on the west side of McClain Hall. It also houses the School of Social and Cultural Studies, Classical and Modern Languages, History, Economics, Creative Writing, English, Linguistics, Philosophy and Religion, and Political Science and International Relations. The east side of the building has classrooms and faculty offices.
Natatorium
The Natatorium, a 6-lane, 25-yard swimming pool, located inside the Pershing Building. The pool is open throughout the year for students, faculty, and staff free of charge as well as the general public with a valid pass. You can take courses ranging from basic swimming to American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, to CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Truman’s men’s and women’s swim teams use this facility for daily practices and hosting swim meets.
Observatory
You can view the planets, moon, constellations and other objects in the sky at the University’s Observatory, located on the University Farm. Stargazers, an organization for all students interested in astronomy, hosts events that are open to the Truman and Kirksville communities.
Ophelia Parrish
The Fine Arts Center in the Ophelia Parrish Building is home to the School of Arts and Letters and serves as the hub for Truman’s art, music, and theatre programs. Here you will find beautiful performance and gallery spaces, including the James G. Severns Theater, a 240-seat courtyard theater. In addition, there is a 500-seat performance hall that has fantastic acoustics and is perfect for vocal and instrumental recitals. The University hosts many guest artists and concert performances, and our Fine Arts Center houses the University Art Gallery where faculty and student works are on display — the gallery also hosts traveling collections of fine art.
Pershing Building
The Pershing Building is named after one of Truman’s most distinguished alumni, General John J. Pershing. This facility houses Truman’s large arena where you can cheer on the Bulldog basketball and volleyball teams. The December commencement ceremony also takes place in Pershing Arena.
Several facilities in the Pershing Building are available for use by chartered campus organizations and university departments at Truman including Pershing Arena, the Small Gym, the Dance Studio, and six classrooms.

Pickler Memorial Library
Pickler Memorial Library is the place to go when it’s time for some serious study. As a new student, you’ll work closely with your academic advisor in the Center for Academic Excellence who can assist with your academic planning as you transition from high school to college. Other helpful resources, such as the Writing Center and Student Access and Disability Services, are also located within the library. You’ll find all kinds of nooks and sunny spots to study as well as meeting spaces for group study sessions. When you need a break from your studies, there’s easy access to Starbucks on the main level.
Planetarium
The Del and Norma Robison Planetarium is located in Magruder Hall, Truman’s science facility. The 60-seat, 1,800-square-foot planetarium, the only one of its kind within 90 miles, serves as a resource for all Truman students, as well as members of the local community.
Stokes Stadium
Truman’s 4,500-seat Stokes Stadium is home to the Bulldog football team and the track and field teams. The football field is surrounded by the Gardner Track, which features an all-weather surface. In May, the stands are filled with families and friends celebrating a joyous occasion as graduates walk across the stage to accept their diplomas at Commencement.
Student Recreation Center
Burn off stress and make yourself healthier in the Student Recreation Center, also known as the Rec. This modern facility features a fantastic weight room, three basketball courts, a track, a multipurpose gym, an aerobics room, and more than 50 pieces of cardio equipment. All kinds of free classes are available to students each semester.
Student Union Building
In the Student Union Building, more commonly known as the “SUB,” you can find meeting and activity rooms, as well as the Hub, a popular space for lounging and relaxing. You can also grab a bite to eat. The Career Center hosts a Career Expo in the SUB each semester.

University Farm
The 400-acre University Farm, located about a mile from campus, provides you with a unique experiential learning environment. Activities at the farm range from classwork, to research, to recreation, including picnics and horse riding. The open spaces at the University Farm are perfect for some nighttime stargazing at the University Observatory.
Violette Hall
Home to the School of Business and the School of Health and Exercise Sciences and Education, Violette Hall houses departments that offer programs in Accounting, Business Administration, Education, Mathematics and Computer Science. The classrooms and offices in Violette Hall surround a beautiful atrium area, and the second level features a large computer lab and a relaxing lounge area.
