How much grant funding will I receive?
A limited amount of grant funding was received. Grant amounts will be determined based on the number of applications received and the specific needs presented in the applications. Truman State University cannot guarantee that all applications submitted will be eligible for funding.
How will I know the results of my application?
Our goal is to award emergency grants as soon as possible. Please monitor your Truman email and student account for information regarding your CARES grant application.
How do I receive the money?
Emergency grants will be processed through student accounts. Emergency grants will be directly deposited into designated bank accounts for students who have signed up for direct deposit refunds. Students without direct deposit will receive a printed check mailed to their permanent address on file.
What if I have a balance due on my student account?
The full amount of the emergency grant will be given directly to you, and will not pay outstanding balances owed to Truman State University. Any outstanding balance owed to Truman State University will remain the responsibility of the student.
Do I need to repay this grant?
No, money received through this fund does not need to be repaid. This fund does not impact nor replace any financial aid you may currently receive, and it is a one-time grant.
If I receive a grant from the CARES Act HEERF, is it taxable?
No. Emergency financial aid grants under the CARES Act are qualified disaster relief payments per the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and will not be taxable.
How many times can I apply? (Updated 11/3/2020)
As of November 3, 2020, an eligible student may submit more than one application for an emergency grant. Previously, a student could only receive grant funds for each expense one time.
