Foundation Board: David Cleaver

David CleaverDavid Cleaver, DO, ’02, is an assistant professor of dermatology at AT Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM). He has been program director for the Dermatology Residency program at Northeast Regional Medical Center/Still OPTI since 2015. Additionally, he is a past president of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.

Dr. Cleaver practices general dermatology at Cleaver Dermatology in Kirksville with a particular focus on rural dermatology and performs various dermatological surgeries, including Mohs surgery. As a principal investigator, he is involved in multiple pharmaceutical clinical trials.

He is a member and fellow of several prestigious organizations, including American Academy of Dermatology, American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, American Society of Mohs Surgery, American Contact Dermatitis Society, and Missouri Dermatological Society.

A native of Kirksville, Missouri, Dr. Cleaver earned his bachelor of science degree in biology from Truman State University. During his time at Truman, he was active in Sigma Tau Gamma and Blue Key. Following Truman, he went onto graduate as a doctor of osteopathic medicine from ATSU-KCOM in 2006. He completed his internship at Richmond Heights/Case Western Reserve University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and his dermatology residency at St. Joseph Mercy Health System/Michigan State University in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Board certified in dermatology and Mohs surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology, Dr. Cleaver was recognized for excellence in teaching, receiving the 2021-22 A.T. Still Staff Award for Excellence in Teaching at ATSU-KCOM. In 2024, he earned the honorary title of fellow of distinction from the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology. He also serves on the board of directors for the Missouri Dermatological Society.

Dr. Cleaver is blessed with wife Melissa and children Sadie and Sam. His father Lloyd, ‘72 and two brothers Jonathan, ’04 and Nathan, ‘06, also Truman State University and ATSU-KCOM graduates, are dermatologists and practice together at Cleaver Dermatology in Kirksville.
