The Accelerated Bachelor of Nursing (ABSN) program offers students a bachelor of science in nursing degree in 15 months of study. Applicants should have completed a bachelor’s degree or near completion of a bachelor’s degree.

The ABSN application deadline is July 1 each year. With rolling admissions, applications may be submitted throughout the year.

Applying to the ABSN program requires two applications, a Truman State University application and a separate application for admission to the Department of Nursing. A student accepted or enrolled at Truman will need to apply to Nursing. A student who has graduated from Truman will need to re-apply to Truman and apply to Nursing. Applications will be reviewed only after acceptance to the University.

Following the completion of specified prerequisite courses, the ABSN program at Truman can be completed in 15 months of study (class and clinical experiences).

The Nursing Department accepts 10-15 students into the ABSN program.

First, you must apply and be accepted into Truman. After you have been admitted, you will be assigned an advisor to discuss the course work and prerequisite classes.

For several years, 100% of Truman’s nursing graduates have reported employment within six months of graduation.

Truman’s nursing program prepares you as a generalist. You may choose to specialize after passing NCLEX-RN®, through employment, or by pursuing graduate studies.

Yes. Some students minor in a foreign language or other areas of study.

Yes. After graduation, students are required to pass the national nursing licensure examination, NCLEX-RN to practice nursing. You will apply to the board of nursing in the state in which you plan to practice. If you move to another state, you will apply to the state board for a nursing license to practice in the state, but you will not be required to repeat the NCLEX-RN examination. Nursing licensure is renewed every two years, so it is important to maintain an active license.
