Who is eligible for the ARP grant?

Based on current Department of Education guidance, Pell Grant eligible students were automatically awarded a block grant amount if they did not fall into one of the below categories.  These students were not required to submit an ARP application to receive grant funds.  Additionally, non-Pell Grant eligible students with a valid 2021-2022 FAFSA on file may be eligible for emergency ARP grant funds if they did not fall into one of the following categories:

• Enrolled in less than 6 credit hours for Fall 2021 or Spring 2022
• Non-degree seeking

Non-Pell Grant eligible students and students who are not eligible to submit a FAFSA are required to submit an ARP grant application detailing expenses and/or ‘exceptional need’.

Where is the ARP grant application located?

The ARP grant application is located on TruView, go to the Tools section on the left-hand side of the page, Student, Student Tools, scroll to the ‘Scholarships, Financial Aid & Loans’ section, click Online Acceptance (View/Accept Financial Aid), and click ‘COVID Relief Fund Request Form’.

How much ARP grant funding will I receive?

A limited amount of grant funding was received.  Grant amounts will be determined based on the number of applications received and the specific needs and expenses presented in the applications.  The grant amount will need to fit within the cost of attendance for eligible students who are required to submit an application.  Truman State University cannot guarantee that all applications submitted will be eligible for funding.

How will I know the results of my application?

Our goal is to award emergency grants as soon as possible.  Please monitor your Truman email and student account for information regarding your ARP grant application.

How do I receive the money?

Emergency grants will be processed through student accounts.  If you elected to have the grant apply towards your student account fees due to the University, it will be disbursed and applied accordingly.  If there is a credit balance once fees are paid, a refund will be processed for you.  If you elected to have the entirety of the grant refunded to you and not applied toward your student account fees due to the University, it will be directly deposited into your designated bank account if you have signed up for direct deposit refunds.  Students without direct deposit will receive a printed check mailed to their permanent address on file.

What if I have a balance due on my student account?

Do I need to repay the ARP grant?

No, money received through this fund does not need to be repaid. This fund does not impact nor replace any financial aid you may currently receive.

If I receive a grant from the ARP Act HEERF III, is it taxable?

No.  Emergency financial aid grants under the ARP Act are qualified disaster relief payments per the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and will not be taxable.

How many times can I apply?

An eligible student may submit one ARP application for a Fall 2021 emergency grant and one ARP application for a Spring 2022 emergency grant. If Truman State University is given additional funding, students will be notified and will be able to reapply for additional grant assistance at that time.

What if I am not eligible, or attempt to apply but do not receive an ARP Act grant, but still have financial need?
