Dr. Charles Gran joined the music faculty at Truman State University in 2008, where he serves leads the Theory and Composition area. Dr. Gran currently teaches composition lessons, songwriting, counterpoint, arranging, orchestration, and electronic music.
Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Gran received a B.Mus. in composition from California State University Fullerton, and Ph.D. in composition from UCLA in 2004. He studied composition with Paul Chihara, Paul Reale, Lloyd Rogers, Ian Krouse and Roger Bourland.
Dr. Gran has written for various combinations of voices, instruments, and media as well as libretti and lyrics. Recent work includes chamber music with electronics, solo piano, and musical-theater. Prior to joining the music faculty at Truman, he taught at Santa Monica College and Occidental College, both in Southern California.
