Marc has taught Latin American history at Truman since 1999. He holds a bachelor's degree in History and Peace Studies from Bethel College in Kansas, and masters and doctorate degrees in Latin American History from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. He is the author of Contemporary Latin American Revolutions (2022), The CIA in Latin America (2020), The FBI in Latin America: The Ecuador Files (2017), Twentieth-Century Latin American Revolutions (2017), ¡Pachakutik! Movimientos indígenas, proyectos políticos y disputas electorales en el Ecuador (2015), Pachakutik: Indigenous Movements and Electoral Politics in Ecuador (2011), Historia agraria y social de Cayambe (2009), Indians and Leftists in the Making of Ecuador's Modern Indigenous Movements (2008), and Mariátegui and Latin American Marxist Theory (1993). He is the editor and translator of The Latin American Revolutionary Movement: Proceedings of the first Latin American communist conference, June 1929 (2023) and José Carlos Mariátegui: An Anthology (2011), and editor of Transnational Communism across the Americas (2023) and Highland Indians and the State in Modern Ecuador (2007). He is currently writing a book on Philip Agee and the CIA in Ecuador in the early 1960s. He has also published numerous articles and book chapters on Indigenous and popular movements and the political left in Latin America. Marc has received Fulbright, SSRC-MacArthur, and other fellowships to support his research. He has served on the executive committees and has been web editor of NativeWeb, the Ecuadorian Studies and Ethnicity Race and Indigenous Peoples sections of the Latin American Studies Association, the Andean and Teaching Materials committees of the Conference on Latin American History, Peace History Society, Historians Against the War, and Truman chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
