Sana Camara is from Senegal, where he pursued a degree in English at Cheikh Anta Diop University. He went on to obtain a Master’s degree in comparative literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a doctorate degree from the Ohio State University with a dissertation on Senegalese French poetry.  He is now Professor of French at Truman State University. Professor Camara’s most recent books are La poésie sénégalaise d’expression française (1945-1982) published by Les Editions L’Harmattan-Sénégal (2011) and The Epic of Kelefaa Saane published by theIndiana University Press (2010).  His other publications include Wolof Lexicon and Grammar, at the University of Wisconsin by NALRC Press (2006) and Sëriñ Muusaa Ka, Melokaani Roytéef [Sëriñ Muusaa Ka: The Characteristics of a Role Model] at the Editions Papyrus Afrique (2008). Professor Camara also published these articles in Research in African Literatures: “A’jami Literature in Senegal, the Example of Sëriñ Muusaa Ka, Poet and Biographer,”and “Birago Diop’s Contribution to the Ideology of Negritude”. “Léopold Sédar Senghor ou l’art poétique négro-africain,” « Aimé Césaire et Léopold Sédar Senghor face à l’historicité nègre » appeared in La Revue Ethiopiques, to which Professor Camara is a contributing editor. Professor Camara has taught almost all levels of French courses Truman State University offers, ranging from Elementary French to Topics in French and Francophone literature. He has served on various committees of the Classical and Modern Language Department.
