Teak has worked in professional nursing as an RN and an APRN (family nurse practitioner) for over 30 years primarily in areas of maternal/neonatal and pediatrics with an emphasis upon primary care - health promotion/disease prevention. She joined the nursing faculty at Truman State University in 2002 and has taught a variety of courses ranging from pharmacology and nutrition to pediatric nursing. Teak also teaches courses in the disability studies minor and has facilitated or taught liberal arts and sciences freshman seminars. Her varied other interests include farming with her husband and two children, scuba diving, hiking, knitting, horseback riding, and reading. She is an advocate for reasonable risk-taking (skydiving is a good place to start).
