Additional Training
Cadet Troop Leader Training (CTLT)
The Cadet Troop Leader Training (CTLT) track provides Cadets the opportunity to experience leadership over a three to four week period. Cadets serve in lieutenant-level leadership positions in active-duty units. Platoon Leader positions have a 3-4 week duration depending on the hosting unit and location. Assignments include units that are located CONUS and OCONUS.
Specialized Internships
Internships offer 400 opportunities for Cadets who seek additional training in specialized areas such as scientific application, engineering, nursing, medicine, intelligence, and cyber applications based on hosting organizations requests. Examples of available internships include the US Army Corps of Engineers (EIP), MIT Lincoln Lab Internship (MITLL), Museum Internship Program (MIP), the National Security Agency (NSA), Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR), and Army Medical Department (AMEDD) as well as opportunities at West Point and the FBI.
Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP)
Cadets with an Academic Major of Nursing are the only Cadets eligible to apply for this program. Cadets are assigned to Army Medical Facilities both in the continental United States (CONUS) and outside the continental United States (OCONUS) including Europe. NSTP provides nursing Cadets with opportunities to develop and practice leadership in a clinical environment. Cadets work side-by- side with an Army Nurse Corps Officer preceptor.

CDT Benzing and CDT Humphrey spent their summer in Honolulu, Hawaii working at Tripler Army Medical Center in the Operating Room. Aside from working, these cadets had time to explore the island financially covered through the program.
“Getting to work in an Army facility was different from any clinical we have experienced throughout nursing school. We not only learned many valuable nursing skills to take back to Truman, but had the opportunity to hike, parasail, snorkel, and explore the island with other nursing cadets from all across the country.”
—CDT Benzing
What else does Truman ROTC offer?
Northern Warfare Challenge

Other events of this race include knot tying, fire starting, cold weather casualty care, and weapons marksmanship. Ranger Challenge
This competition is conducted over two days with events consisting of land navigation, grenade throws, basic rifle marksmanship, M-16 disassembly/assembly, and a 6 mile ruck. Teams compete with either 9 or 5 members and train for this event throughout the semester. The mission is to challenge Cadets' mental and physical toughness and to develop leadership while fostering teamwork and esprit- de-corps.
Ranger Buddy
Similar to Ranger challenge, Ranger buddy is a two person team competing in events such as a 9 mile ruck, medical evacuation, land navigation, and weapon assembly/disassembly, and a 5k run. Partners train throughout the semester in preparation for the competition.
