Human Performance Lab
Students working in the Human Performance Laboratory measure all aspects of human function. For example:
- they measure oxygen consumption and caloric expenditure using one of two Parvo Medics TrueOne 2400 metabolic carts;
- measure body composition and bone mineral density using a G.E. Healthcare Prodigy dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry machine;
- gain clinical experience in identifying cardiac abnormalities using a Quinton Q-stress System with treadmill;
- use a Humac Norm Isokinetic device to analyze muscle power output and assess the effect of resistance training on strength;
- measure human performance on one of many Monarch ergometers including upright and Wingate models;
- analyze blood glucose or lactate content using a YSI Analyzer or hand held analyzers.
