Truman State University Foundation Scholarships for Graduate Students
The Truman State University Foundation offers several scholarship opportunities for qualifying graduate students. Please note that not all of the scholarships are available at all times; some of these scholarships are open each semester and some open once a year.

How to apply for Foundation scholarshipsRuth B. Beal Scholarship ($400)
Criteria:
- Must be admitted to the Master of Arts in Education program
- English Major
- Financial need
- Minimum of 3.5 GPA
Mabel Kennedy Carr Education Scholarship ($750)
Criteria:
- Pursuing a Master of Arts in Education
- Financial need
Frank and Mary Carter Mathematics Scholarship ($1,500)
Criteria:
- Mathematics major
- Must be admitted to the Master of Arts in Education program
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Financial need
Class of 2011 Accountancy Scholarship ($1,000)
Criteria:
- Masters of Accountancy Student (non-Graduate Teaching/Research Assistantships only)
- Minimum 3.25 undergraduate GPA
- Actively involved in extracurricular activities including at least one Business organization during undergraduate career
- Displayed leadership in at least one organization
- Preference given to those who are not receiving significant academic scholarships
- Accounting faculty to select recipient during the spring semester
Cozette Family Endowed Scholarship (two awards of $2,500)
Criteria:
- Missouri resident
- Financial need
- Accepted and enrolled in the Master of Arts in Education program
Eugene J. Croarkin Accounting Scholarship (two awards of $1,250)
Criteria:
- Outstanding undergraduate or graduate accounting student
Clay Dawson Choral Scholarship (two awards of $425)
Criteria:
- Incoming Truman student, may be an undergraduate (first-year or transfer) or graduate student who shows outstanding musicianship in a vocal or choral audition
- Has a strong and demonstrated interest in choral conducting, e.g., has experience in conducting or plans to pursue a career in teaching choral music
- Strong preference given to incoming vocal music majors
- Letter of reference from a music teacher is required
- Is awarded in conjunction with a vocal scholarship, which requires participation in University Chorus and auditioning for Cantoria
Ethan Dobereiner Memorial Scholarship ( $1,000)
Criteria:
- A resident of Rock Island County or Peoria County, Illinois
- Preference given to undergraduate Pre-MAE student or Master of Arts in Education student
- Financial need
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
Charles Foudree Scholarship (two awards of $1,650)
Criteria:
- Formally admitted to Master of Accountancy program
- Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Demonstrated active involvement and leadership in co-curricular activities
- GMAT scores above 60th percentile
- Accounting faculty to select recipient during the spring semester to be awarded to a new graduate student beginning the following fall semester
Holman Family Graduate Student Scholarship (26 awards of $2,000)
Criteria:
- Undergraduate degree from Truman State University
- Admission to a graduate program at Truman State University
- Financial need
Leslie Rose Howell Scholarship ($1,250)
Criteria:
- Enrolled or accepted to the Master of Arts in Education program
- Commitment to teaching science
Juanita McGuire Jamison Memorial Art Scholarship ($750)
Criteria:
- Art major
- U.S. Citizen
- Upperclassman or graduate student
- Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA or 3.0 graduate GPA
Juanita McGuire Jamison Memorial Music Scholarship ($750)
Criteria:
- Music major
- U.S. Citizen
- Upperclassman or graduate student
- Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA or 3.0 graduate GPA
Connie Holt Jones Graduate Research Scholarship ($1,250)
Criteria:
- International student in their first year of the Master of Arts in English program
- Preference given to students from third-world countries
Jean Kraus Memorial Scholarship ($500)
Criteria:
- Visual arts student majoring in studio art or entering Master of Arts in Education program
- Strong academic record
Merry Lynn Lyle (’90, ’91) Memorial Scholarship ($500)
Criteria:
- Nontraditional student of any class year
- Preference given to those admitted to the Master of Education program or Bachelor of Arts in English
- Preference given to those who demonstrated financial need
- Recommended cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Active involvement and leadership in extracurricular activities
McManis Family Scholarship ($850)
Criteria:
- Student of high character
- Financial need
- First preference given to education or pre-Master of Arts in Education student
- Secondary preference given to interdisciplinary, history or political science majors
Anna Catherine Brown Motter Scholarship ($2,500)
Criteria:
- Fifth-year student studying in the Master of Arts in Education program
- Missouri Resident
- 3.0 GPA or better
- Financial need
Noah P. Richardson Scholarship ($250)
Criteria:
- Applicant must be entering the Master of Arts in Education program
- Bachelor of Arts in history or political science
Kelin Sanders Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
Criteria:
- Master of Arts in Education student
- Medium financial need
- Not receiving other substantial scholarship support
- Passion for teaching, as described in personal statement
- 3.25 to 3.75 cumulative GPA
Jim and Nancy Shaddy Research Scholarship ($1,000)
Criteria:
- Undergraduate or graduate student
- Minimum 2.75 GPA
- In your personal statement, submit a review or your research proposal
- Preference given to students conducting research in the following areas (in order): a. Entomological, b. Entomologically-related, c. Arthropod-related, d. Biological
Shelton Family Scholarship (two awards of $1,750)
Criteria:
- Admitted to the Master of Arts in Education program
- Financial need
- Academic excellence
- Preference to Missouri resident
Harold and Helen Stewart Scholarship ($1,000)
Criteria:
- Admitted to the Master of Arts in Education program
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Financial need
- Preference given to secondary English and history majors
Kathleen (Bohon) Strickler Scholarship ($1,350)
Criteria:
- Recipient must be entering the Master of Arts in Education program
UHY Advisors Accounting Scholarship ($1,000)
Criteria:
- First-year student in the Master of Accountancy program
- Financial need
- Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Active involvement and leadership in extra-curricular activities
Bob G. and H. Janell Woods Scholarship ($1,200)
Criteria:
- Accepted or enrolled in Master of Arts in Education program
- Only for students from Shelby County, Missouri
Dale Woods Mathematics Scholarship ($850)
Criteria:
- Math or Computer Science major
- Undergraduate or graduate student
- 75 hours or more completed prior to beginning of spring semester
- Minimum 3.5 GPA in math
