The professional phase of the ES/MAT 3+2 program requires 62 credits of graduate coursework that is completed over the course of two years and requires continuous enrollment. The curriculum is sequenced to allow for the greatest amount of depth in both content and clinical application.

During the three pre-professional years of study, students focus on University general education requirements, liberal studies, core courses in exercise science, and courses required in the Truman ES/MAT 3+2 concentration. The curriculum design allows students to become fully immersed in the liberal arts experiences while gaining valuable insights into the exercise science culture to enhance patient care experiences in athletic training.

Degrees Awarded

Students enrolled in the Truman ES/MAT 3+2 program will complete 159 credit hours in five years to earn both the Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and the Professional Master of Athletic Training degree.

This enrollment option is designed for the traditional residential college student interested in a liberal arts experience combined with the professional education in athletic training. During the first three years of study in this program, the student completes all of the general education, MAT prerequisite, and core exercise science major requirements. The remaining credit hours required to earn the BS degree (120 credits) will be earned through graduate-level courses in athletic training beginning in the summer after the 3rd year of study. The BS in Exercise will be conferred in May of the 4th year of study after all university requirements are completed (including the ES senior test, the EP-C). The Master of Athletic Training degree will be awarded at the end of the 5th year of study and the completion of additional graduate credits in athletic training to complete the 62 credit hour program requirement. At the end of the 5^th year, students will be eligible to register for the Board of Certification exam.
