Leave of Absence
Application
Where can I find the Leave of Absence Application?
Students can find the Leave of Absence application in TruView.
- In TruView, go to Shortcuts > Registration Tool.
- Click on Leave of Absence link.
- Select Leave of Absence Plan Application.
The completed application will be sent to the appropriate offices for review. You may be contacted for more information after the application is submitted. You will be notified by email when your request for Leave of Absence has been approved.
Which offices will be notified?
Academic Standards Chair | Ashleigh Harding (appeals@truman.edu) | Pickler Memorial Library 109
The Academic Standards Chair approves a student’s LOA plan. If you are an international student, your leave will also need to be approved by the Center for International Students (iso01@truman.edu). Once applications are approved, students will receive an email notification.
Residence Life Office | Student Housing Assistant (rlsha@truman.edu) | Missouri Hall 1100
For students living on campus at the time of their LOA application submission, the Student Housing Assistant is notified of their intent to leave campus. The notification includes the student’s indicated absence start date, length of leave, semester they intend to return, and their primary reason for the LOA.
This individual will reach out to the student’s Student Advisor to begin the checkout process. The Residence Life Office is reasonable in providing students a sufficient amount of time to move out of their room, so students should communicate how much time they need.
Financial Aid Office | finaid@truman.edu | McClain Hall 103
The Financial Aid Office receives an automated communication once a student submits a LOA application. The notification includes the student’s indicated absence start date, length of leave, semester they intend to return, and their primary reason for the LOA. Once a student returns from leave, they should connect with Financial Aid to review their account for financial assistance eligibility.
Center for International Students | iso01@truman.edu | Baldwin Hall 104
For international students, the Center for International Students (CIS) will be notified once a student completes the LOA application. The notification includes the student’s indicated absence start date, length of leave, semester they intend to return, and their primary reason for the LOA. Once the CIS receives the notice, they will contact the student and ask them to visit with their staff. After a discussion, the CIS will either approve or deny the LOA. Once the LOA is approved, it will move on to the Academic Standards Chair (appeals@truman.edu) for approval.
Registrar’s Office | registrar@truman.edu | McClain Hall 104
The Registrar’s Office receives an automated communication once a student submits a LOA application. The notification includes the student’s indicated absence start date, length of leave, semester they intend to return, and their primary reason for the LOA. This student will be stored in the student’s personal file at the Registrar’s Office. For students currently enrolled at the time they submit and intend to begin their leave of absence, they should also withdraw from all courses for that semester. The Registrar’s Office will also receive that withdrawal notification.
Student Accounts Section of the Business Office | staccts@truman.edu | McClain Hall 105
In the case of an unforeseeable circumstance resulting in a Leave of Absence, a student will need to complete the LOA application and then withdraw from all courses for the semester. Once a student withdraws from courses, the Business Office receives an automated notification from the Registrar’s Office that allows them to pro-rate charges and financial aid based for the student. This pro-rate is based on the Registrar’s determination of what portion of the term the student completed along with any associated appeals.
