The Transfer Process at Truman

We understand no two students are alike when transferring colleges. We’d love to meet with you and show you what it’s like to be a Truman Bulldog. We can talk through the transfer process, set up appointments with faculty in your departments, and connect you with anyone else who can assist you.

We like making informed decisions, too. In the Course Equivalency Guide you can find a list of over 1500 schools that students have transferred credit from in the past. Simply search for any institution you are transferring credits from. Then, find the courses you have taken and add them to your list. Please note that if Truman does not have a history with transferring credits from your former institution and therefore it is not listed, this does not indicate that courses you have taken will not transfer.

After submitting your application and official transcripts, you will receive an official credit evaluation from the university with a breakdown of how your credits will transfer to Truman. This process can take up to three weeks during our busiest application times.

Application

Transfer students seeking admission to Truman can apply through our Transfer Application or the Transfer Common Application.

Your admission decision is based on the following information if you have completed 12 college credit hours or more after high school (this does not include dual credit courses):

  • Official college transcripts showing all credits completed after high school
  • Essay (highly recommended for transfer scholarship review)
  • Resume/Activities List (highly recommended for transfer scholarship review)

Your admission decision is based on the following information if you have less than 12 college credit hours completed after high school:

  • High school transcripts (if under 12 hours of independent transferable credit post-high school)
  • ACT and/or SAT scores (if under 12 hours of independent transferable credit post-high school)
  • Essay (highly recommended for transfer scholarship review)
  • Resume/Activities List (highly recommended for transfer scholarship review)

The Office of Admission reserves the right to request additional information if it will assist us in making a better admissions decision for applicants.

You should request transcripts be sent directly to the Registrar’s Office through your institution’s transcript request service. Electronic copies should be sent to registrar@truman.edu to provide the fastest decision on your application.

Scholarships

To simplify your application process, your scholarship decision will be made when your application materials are reviewed for admission. Transfer students are eligible for both automatic and competitive transfer scholarships. The sooner you submit your application, the sooner the scholarship decisions will be made.

The latest a student will be reviewed for admission is a week before classes start for your entry term.


Before beginning classes at Truman and before meeting with your academic advisor, you must complete an enrollment questionnaire. This will provide essential information to your academic advisors in the Center for Academic Excellence. These advisors will create personalized enrollment recommendations for your first semester at Truman. Complete the enrollment questionnaire as soon as you receive instructions to do so for the quickest access to enrolling in courses.


To help you get acquainted with the Truman community, we encourage all new transfer students to participate in our Transfer Student Orientation. During Orientation, you will be provided with detailed information about your credit evaluation. Plus, Orientation provides you with the opportunity to meet other incoming students so you can start building a network of friends!

Submitting Midterm Grades

Why would I need to submit midterm grades?

Admission decisions can be challenging with limited information. We may ask for midterm grades:

  • If you have fewer than 12 hours of transferrable credit
  • If the grades on your transcript do not accurately reflect your preparation for coursework at Truman
  • To see how you are doing with current coursework relevant to your major program

We review all applications using a holistic process, considering more than just grades when making a final decision. If you have questions about requests for midterm grades please let us know.
