Veterans

The Veterans Representative is located in the Registrar’s Office and serves as a liaison for those students who are eligible to receive education benefits from the Veterans Administration (VA) or utilize Tuition Assistance (TA) from the United States Department of Defense (D0D).  Tuition Assistance rules vary by branch of service and even vary between components within the branches depending on whether the Service member is Active duty, Reserve, or National Guard. All prospective students should consult with the Educational Services Officer (ESO), military counselor or Service prior to enrolling at Truman State University.

Students who have applied for and are eligible for VA education benefits should contact the Veterans Representative for procedural instructions to initiate their certification of enrollment at Truman State University.

Students utilizing VA education benefits for the first time must provide a copy of their Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) and DD-214 or DD-220 if applicable with an Intent to Enroll form to the Veterans Representative for submission of the initial certification of enrollment to the VA. Each semester after initial certification, students who are receiving VA education benefits must complete an Intent to Enroll form before an enrollment certification can be submitted to the VA for processing. Intent to Enroll forms are available in the Registrar’s Office, MC 104 initially and emailed to students each continuing semester. Payments to the student will be made directly from the Veterans Administration to the bank account provided when the student registers for the GI Bill or directly to Truman State University depending on the chapter.

To prevent delays in receipt of VA education benefits, students must immediately notify the Veterans Representative of the following changes:

  • Changes in academic schedule: adding/dropping from course(s) or withdrawing from the semester/University
  • Change of major
  • Change of address
  • Academic probation or dismissal
  • Intent to transfer from Truman State University

Students who are receiving VA education benefits are required to sign an attendance verification sheet for each month enrolled. The attendance verification sheet is located in the Registrar’s Office. Failure to sign this form each month may result in the termination of benefits for that semester.

Students wanting to utilize Tuition Assistance (TA), must receive approval from their ESO, military counselor or Service prior to enrolling at Truman State University and to create their account on ArmyIgnitED. Once approved, students should contact the Student Accounts Office or Veterans Representative to notify them of the use of TA and must apply through ArmyIgnitED at https://armyignited.com/app/.
